ESL phrases: Bite the bullet and on my mind 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 1
This story is not based on real life.

Last Friday after work, I noticed that my boss had emailed me. He said that he wanted to talk to me about something. My boss never says he wants to talk to me unless I've done something wrong or he has bad news.
All weekend it was on my mind. I wondered "What could he want to talk to me about? Maybe I am going to be fired! Maybe the company is going bankrupt?"
Again and again the thoughts kept running through my mind.
On Monday I decided to bite the bullet early, I went to the boss' office to find out what he wanted. Unfortunately, the boss was away on business! I didn't want whatever the boss had to say hanging over my head all day, so I called him.

"Hello boss?"
"Speaking"
"This is Anthony."
"Hi Anthony, what seems to be the problem?"
"I'm just calling about Friday's email. You wanted to speak to me about something."
"Yes I did. How would you like a promotion?"
I couldn't believe my ears!
"Really?" I asked
"No. You're fired."
"What?!"
"Just kidding, I have a project for you. I will discuss it with you when I get back."
"Thank goodness!" I said. "OK, Talk to you when you get back."

I was happy that I still had a job, but not so happy to have a new project.
If something is on your mind is that good or bad or neither?
What does running through my mind mean?
What does bite the bullet mean?
What does hanging over me mean?

Good luck with your answers!

Hi Sunflower
Take as much time as you like with writing answers

1 In terms of something on my mind, it can have either a good meaning or a bad meaning.
2 Running through my mind is the expression of being anxious.
3 Bite the bullet means taking a chance on it.
4 Hanging over my head means that I can't get something out of my head.

These expressions were a little difficult. Thanks for trying though!!! I've written the answers below.

ANSWERS
1 Something on your mind has a negative meaning. It means that something is bothering you. We often say this when someone is thinking about something so much that they can't concentrate very well on anything else.

2 Running through my mind means that an idea or thought enters your mind. Keeps running through my mind shows that the thought or thoughts are repeatedly entering the persons mind.

3 Bite the bullet means you decide to do something unpleasant. In this story, Anthony decides to find out what the boss wants to talk to him about. He thought it would be something bad.

4 Hanging over my head means that something is causing you to worry or to feel bad. In this story, the fact that the boss wanted to talk to Anthony was causing him to worry.
